santa_float_2011NOV. 28, 2011; FORT SASK., AB — Santa Claus arrived in Fort Saskatchewan Saturday morning at the end of the Fort Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce's 19th Annual Santa Claus Parade.

A total of 36 entries travelled through downtown Fort Saskatchewan, leading the way for Santa Claus' jovial arrival. Santa waved to children lining the streets welcoming him to town while his helpers handed out candy and collected letters and wishlists written for him.

1,250 people attended the parade, many hanging around afterwards to enjoy weekend-only discounts at local merchants.

Judges were spread out along the route, marking each entry on Christmas theme, originality, creativity and enthusiasm. Their scores have now been calculated and the winners are:

  • 1st Place: Taurus Projects Group/Applecart Logistics
  • 2nd Place: City of Fort Saskatchewan
  • 3rd Place: Kingdom Pets
  • 4th Place: Heartland Ford
  • Best Walking Entry: Fort Fury Girls Hockey

This year's parade was dedicated in the memory of MaryAnn Neis, who was a long-time volunteer with Santa's float in the parade. She passed away earlier this year. In her honour, some of her family members joined Santa on his sleigh this year.
