Chamber weighs in on 2012 City budget

Chamber submits letter outlining 4 key recommendations for 2012 budget

The Fort Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce submitted a letter to Mayor Gale Katchur and City Council on Tuesday, Dec. 6, with four key recommendations on the 2012 City of Fort Saskatchewan budget and the tax impact facing the community.

Those four key recommendations are:

  1. Keep spending and property tax increases that support City operations in line with inflation.
  2. Complete work on a 10-year capital projects plan to prioritize the needs of the community while balancing those with a limited source of funds.
  3. Improve communication of the impacts the budget will have on small business, not just “average households.”
  4. Do not consider imposing any new taxes that would increase business costs, reduce business competitiveness and be counterproductive to attracting business interests to the City.
