Chamber Participates in ACABEX 2026 International Business Exchange

The Fort Saskatchewan & Lamont County Regional Chamber of Commerce was proud to participate in ACABEX 2026 (Africa-Canada-Asia Business Exchange), held June 29-30 at Mount Royal University in Calgary. The international summit brought together government officials, business leaders, investors, economic development organizations, and delegates from across Canada, Africa, and Asia to explore opportunities in trade, investment, innovation, and economic growth.

Executive Director Colin Fagnan was invited to serve as a panelist on the discussion, "Oil & Gas, LNG & Energy Security: Building Trilateral Value Chains between Africa, Canada and Asia." The panel explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration between Canada, Africa, and Asia in support of energy security, investment attraction, supply chain development, and long-term economic partnerships.

Fagnan joined fellow panelists Andy Wu of the Canadian China Commercial Association, Shane Jaffer of Invest Alberta, and Dr. Akolisa Ufodike. The discussion was moderated by Leela Aheer, CEO of SLAM Industries and former Alberta Cabinet Minister.

As the Chamber representing a region with significant energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, and industrial activity, Fagnan shared perspectives on the important role chambers of commerce and boards of trade can play in connecting businesses, facilitating dialogue, and helping advance opportunities between industry and government.

“Strong economic partnerships are built through relationships, trust, and ongoing collaboration,” said Fagnan. “Events like ACABEX provide valuable opportunities to connect decision-makers from different sectors and regions, helping turn conversations into future opportunities.”

In addition to participating on the energy panel, the Chamber engaged with a wide range of stakeholders throughout the conference, including municipal leaders, elected officials, economic development professionals, investors, and international delegates. Discussions focused on strengthening trade relationships, encouraging investment, and identifying opportunities for collaboration between Canadian businesses and partners from Africa and Asia.

The conference program featured sessions on investment attraction, energy security, agriculture and agri-food value chains, economic diplomacy, smart cities, workforce development, and international cooperation. Associate Minister Muhammad Yaseen participated in the opening ceremonies on behalf of the Premier and the Government of Alberta.

The Chamber extends its appreciation to NEXTVIA Inc. and the ACABEX organizing team for the invitation to participate in this important international forum.

As global markets become increasingly interconnected, the Chamber remains committed to ensuring that local businesses are represented in discussions that influence trade, investment, workforce development, and economic growth both within Alberta and beyond.
