The workplace is changing and today's successful businesses understand that solid Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices create a workplace that utilizes employees' diversity to fortify the organization. Creating an inclusive workplace isn't only the right thing to do, it is expected by both employees and consumers.
University of Michigan's Chief Diversity Officer likened diversity, equity and inclusion to various aspects of attending a party:
- Diversity is where everyone is invited to the party
- Inclusion means that everyone gets to contribute to the party playlist
- Equity means that everyone has the opportunity to dance and experience the music
