On the New Federal–Provincial Energy Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
The Fort Saskatchewan & Lamont County Regional Chamber of Commerce
welcomes the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada. This important agreement
represents a positive shift in federal–provincial collaboration and signals a renewed
commitment to the long-term vitality and competitiveness of Alberta’s energy sector.
Key elements of the MOU—including the federal commitment not to pursue an oil and
gas emissions cap, the suspension of the Clean Electricity Regulations, and joint
support for major projects such as an Indigenous co-owned bitumen pipeline to the
pacific coast and the Pathways CCUS initiative—reflect a clearer and more stable policy
environment for industry.
As a region deeply connected to Alberta’s industrial and energy economy, we view this
renewed partnership as an important development for business confidence, investment
attraction, and long-term job creation. The Chamber is encouraged by the federal
government’s recognition of Alberta’s leadership in responsible resource development
and by the shared focus on economic growth, emissions reduction technologies, and
Indigenous participation in major projects.
We look forward to continued collaboration between governments and industry to
advance opportunities that benefit our region, our province, and Canada’s broader
economic future.
